Descriptive twist for World Book Day at St Robert’s

There was an interesting twist, when St Robert’s Catholic First School put their own spin on this year’s World Book Day celebrations.

While some pupils arrived dressed as their favourite fictional characters on Thursday 5 March, others took a more descriptive approach and chose to come as adjectives.

“Children were invited to come to school dressed either as a character from a book or as an adjective, depending on their preference,” said Jen Sykes, who is Deputy Headteacher and English Lead at St Robert’s. “Example ideas included ‘nocturnal’ or ‘artistic’.”

The creativity continued, with each year group making their own book characters, which were placed together at the end of the day to form a special display.

In addition, older children read to their younger schoolmates, while all ages had the opportunity to participate in a special interactive storytelling experience.

“On World Book Day, the children took part in the Now Press Play immersive storytelling experience,” continued Mrs Sykes. “Throughout the day, they immersed themselves in stories by listening to and exploring engaging books, bringing characters and adventures to life. This was done through headphones.

“The children interacted with the stories through discussion, imagination, and creative activities, allowing them to fully experience the joy of storytelling in a fun and meaningful way.”

Other Trust member schools celebrating World Book Day included St Alban’s, St Catherine’s, St Joseph’s in North Shields , and St Lawrence’s.
