As December got underway, children from St Columba’s Catholic Primary were helping to spread some festive cheer – while also raising money for a good cause.
The school choir lifted spirits at the Wallsend Forum Shopping Centre on Friday 4 December, performing a range of seasonal songs and carols to entertain the shoppers, while collecting more than £175 for Marie Curie.
It was the second time that the school had held the event in aid of the end-of-life charity.
“We did this last year, supported and organised by the staff of Marie Curie, as one of our parents works for the charity,” explained Headteacher Rachel Steinmetz.
“The event went well and our choir raised £177.18 in the half an hour of singing.”
The choir members, who are in Years 4, 5, and 6 at the school, will also be visiting Eothen Homes later in the month, to share some Yuletide sparkle with residents in the run up to Christmas.
“Events such as these benefit the children through helping to develop their confidence, giving them a chance to impact their local community through fundraising, and spreading joy with their wonderful singing voices,” added Mrs Steinmetz.
“The choir loved seeing the crowd join in, singing along with them. Christmas is a time to reach out to others, make a difference, and spread some cheer.”
