Prudhoe Community Band brings live music to BBCET school

School went with a swing, when children in Walbottle were treated to a live, musical performance from a visiting band.

Pupils from Years 1 to 6 at St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary were entertained by the members of Prudhoe Community Band, which included Bev Bookless, who is Chair of Governors at the school.

“They performed a Musical Showcase, involving songs from Wicked and pop songs,” said Marni Ellis, Music Co-ordinator at St Cuthbert’s.

“The children also had opportunities to ask about the wide range of musical instruments.”

Formed in 1993 under the Community Arts Initiative, the band comprises all ages and levels of ability, from beginners to more experienced musicians, and regularly performs in parks, town squares, and shopping centres in the area. It was the first time that the group had paid a visit to St Cuthbert’s.

“The children enjoyed listening to live performances from a band and having opportunities to learn about a wide range of musical instruments,” continued Miss Ellis, who organised the event.

“Visits like this are extremely important for the children, as they give them an opportunity to see a wider range of instruments that could maybe inspire them to want to learn an instrument,” she added.

“It also gives the children an opportunity to listen to live music.”
