Songs for good causes at Wallsend Forum

Shoppers enjoyed some unexpected entertainment, when the choir from St Columba’s Catholic Primary performed at the Wallsend Forum Shopping Centre – and all for a good cause.

The 25 children from Years 3 to 6 were collecting money for Marie Curie cancer care, accompanied by the school’s Music Lead, Catherine Harris.

It was the second time the pupils had sung at the Forum, following a previous fund-raising performance over the Christmas period, where the group performed carols and other festive favourites.

This time the songsheet included hits from Mamma Mia, SkyFall, and True Colours, among other well-known numbers.

“It is part of our ‘Faith in Action’ fundraising – using our talents for the good of the community,” said Headteacher Rachel Steinmetz.

It gives our choir a purpose and a reason to perform. They always have an extra burst of energy and enthusiasm every time someone drops a coin in the collection bucket.

“It gives the children confidence and a sense of pride in raising money for such a good cause.”
