St Bede’s pupils sparkle at Whitley Bay Playhouse

Music legend Elton John was the inspiration, when children from St Bede’s Catholic Primary in Bedlington took to the stage at Whitley Bay Playhouse.

The 15 pupils from the school were taking part in a Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust showcase event, alongside fellow Trust primaries St Aidan’s, St Paul’s, Ss Peter and Paul’s, St Robert’s, and St Wilfrid's, and students from St Benet Biscop Catholic Academy, which organised the evening.

Samantha Fairbairn, who is Key Stage 1 Lead at St Bede’s, underlined the importance of the annual show.

“It is an event organised by St Benet Biscop for their feeder schools and has happened for several years,” she said.

“It is really important to see schools working together. Some of our children going were vulnerable, so it is building links with high school earlier.”

The dancers from St Bede’s ranged in age from Years 4 to 6, and performed two routines, both of which had been choreographed by Teaching Assistant Debbie Craik, to music the children had helped choose.

Mrs Fairbairn added: “Our children had input into the songs chosen. They chose ‘I’m Still Standing’ by Elton John and ‘Dynamite’ by BTS.

“Some schools danced, some sang, and some performed musical theatre routines. Our children wore bright colours and sparkles to shine on the night.”
