It was a race for a good cause, when caring pupils from a school in Gosforth took part in this year’s Children’s Cancer Run to raise funds for Children’s Cancer North.

Some 30 children from St Oswald’s Catholic Primary were among more than 10,000 runners participating in the event at Newcastle Racecourse, which was taking place for the 43rd time.

The youngsters were joined by Headteacher Paul Marley and Deputy Headteacher Katie Morris from the school, while Year 1 Class Teacher Gemma Summersby was official photographer for the day.

“This has been an event that the school has loved being part of for many years,” said Mrs Morris. “It’s been great to see the event grow over the years.”

Children’s Cancer North supports children and families in the North East and Cumbria who are affected by cancer, and the charity has raised more than £40 million since 1979.

Other Trust primary schools supporting the Children's Cancer Run included St Mary’s in Forest Hall, and St Teresa’s in Heaton.

“Events like this give children the opportunity to help children and families who are most in need throughout our city,” added Mrs Morris.
