There were teddies and treats when St Charles’ Catholic Primary in Gosforth raised more than £365 to help malnourished children and babies in Kenya.
All age groups at the school took part in a week of baby-themed fundraising activities, which ran from ‘Milkshake Monday’ to ‘Flashback Friday’, where pupils were asked to identify teachers from their baby photos. Other events included a Guess the Teddy’s Name competition and a ‘Tasty Treats’ bake sale, with all proceeds going to support a malnutrition clinic in Muhoroni.
“The Back to Baby Fundraiser involved a range of fun activities across the school,” said Higher Level Teaching Assistant Megan Cranney, who organised the event.
“The week was designed to be enjoyable for the children while raising awareness and support for babies and families in need.”
The initiative was led by Father David, a priest from Wallsend.
“The school raised an amazing £366 for Father David,” continued Miss Cranney.
“The money will be used to support families attending the malnutrition clinic in Muhoroni by helping to provide milk formula for babies and young children. In addition, members of the parish kindly crocheted blankets to donate to families in need.”
“Events like this are incredibly important, because they help children live out the Catholic values of compassion, kindness, and service to others,” she added.
“Supporting causes such as Father David’s work in Muhoroni helps pupils understand the importance of helping those less fortunate, and putting their faith in action.
“Fundraising activities also give the children the opportunity to work together as a school community, while learning about the challenges faced by families in other parts of the world.
“The children really enjoyed taking part, and felt proud knowing they were making a positive difference to the lives of others’.”
